Resgrid, 2020 in Review

March 27, 2021 by Resgrid Team

Starting in 2019 we started to overhaul Resgrid, make it more modern, add more value, push our open-source offerings and start to expand our features and fix underlying system issues. Our focus for Resgrid is to make the system a top tier dispatch and management solution for everyone. The amount of effort required for this was immense, we needed to completely overhaul our systems architecture all while keeping the system online for everyone to be able to use.

The target date for this to be complete was Q2 2020.

We all know how 2020 turned out, the impact on us was that we had to change focus to optimize our existing system for increased usage, make sure there was zero downtime during that time to ensure you could communicate with your personnel and dispatch worked. In Q3 2020 we finally got back to our work on our overhaul and had to reconcile some serious changes between production and our update.

In Q4 we released our first phase of the plan. We’ve implemented some brand-new technologies, Docker, Kubernetes, Dapper, RabbitMQ to make our system portable and resilient and not reliant on specific cloud provider implementations. This allows us to match our Open-Source offering with our Hosted offering. With this update we’ve seen some massive performance gains, reduction in errors and bugs and can deploy updates much more frequently without impacting users. Some of you have reported bugs to us and we’ve deployed fixes within hours.

It’s been a long couple of years for us, but the crucible of 2020 enabled us to battle test our system, designs and put forward a system that is meeting your needs better then it ever has. We aren’t done, 2021 we were hoping to restart our outreach, but we feel we have an opportunity to better improve our underlying system before we start to focus in on growth again. We will be taking the first 3 quarters of 2021 to really shore up Resgrid, our mobile applications and release a new Dispatcher Application.

Take care of each other, help your communities and be safe out there. Here’s to the hope that 2021 will be a much better year for all of you.
